GENERAL :
81 MM Smoke Grenade 3 D6 is an auxiliary ammunition used with Tank T-72. This ammunition is of Russian origin. The grenade is electrically fired from 12 launchers mounted on the tank itself. Under ideal conditions, the grenade produces blackish smoke screen. It is intended for use in battle situations requiring rapidly laid smoke to blind and screen tanks against anti tank missiles etc.

PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS :
1. When this grenade is fired at 45 degree ± 1 degree elevation, it has an average range of 200 – 350 meters.
2. The grenade produces smoke screen covering the area as follows :
Width 10 metres to 30 metres
Height 3 metres to 10 metres
On firing, smoke emission starts after a delay of 7 to 12 Seconds.

The duration of smoke is between 60 seconds to 130 seconds.
 
SPECIAL FEATURES :
This is the only smoke ammunition which is test fired at hot (+53 degree centigrade), sub zero temperature (-43 degree centigrade) and at ambient temperature. Zero Defects are assured even for functioning at sub zero temperature environment. The indigenous version is an improved version ensuring better performance even in rocky condition.
QUALITY :
The raw materials used for components are tested by independent Quality Assurance wing. During manufacturing stages, quality surveillance by both by producer and Army’s representative are provided. Major components are test fired and only passed proof components are taken into final assembly of ammunition. The final grenade is dynamically proved for
i. Functioning
ii. Time of Delay
iii. Mean firing range
 
SAFETY :
Adequate mechanical safety arrangements are provided for safety during handling and transportation.
RELIABILITY :
Due to its sturdy design and careful manufacture, the ammunition is very reliable in all weather conditions.
SHELF LIFE :
The shelf life of this ammunition is 7 years.

Two grenades are packed in a Box 5A.
