This ammunition is of U.K. origin. This is similar to 105 mm APDS ammunition differing in having a solid shot in lieu of a cored shot. This ammunition is fired for practice purpose to train the army.
The ammunition is of fixed type. The cartridge case is made of brass to specification JSS-9535-2. The cartridge case is slightly tapered throughout its length. The shot is a solid shot identical to APDS shot in external contour. The shot is in two pieces, the nose made of aluminium alloy and the body of steel, both assembled together by screw threads. Propellant NQ/M 028 is multi tubular. Primer L1A4 (electric primer) is screwed at the base of the cartridge case which is having a resistance between 15 to 65 ohms. The primer functions when a firing voltage of 16 volts is applied to it. This ammunition is manufactured to Government of India, Ministry of Defence Specification No. 1A-1207 (J) and Drawing No IRW 132 GF.

The ammunition is fired for practice purpose only to save costly APDS ammunition.
The raw materials used for components are tested by independent Quality Assurance Wing. During manufacturing stage, quality surveillance, by both producer and Army’s representatives are provided. Major components are test fired and only passed proof components are taken into final assembly of ammunition.
The primer is of electrical type and does not get initiated unless it receives an electric impulse. There is no fuze assembled into the projectile. As such, this ammunition is absolutely safe during manufacture, storage and transport.
Due to its sound design and careful manufacture, the ammunition is very reliable for use in combat field environment.
The shelf life of the ammunition is 18 years.
Each round is packed in waterproof laminated paper container, the body and lid of which is sealed together with two turns of tape adhesive water proof. Two such containered rounds are finally packed in one steel box.
