CARTRIDGE FVC/RVC FOR 130 mm HE
ROLE :
The 130 mm, gun is along range medium gun and is capable of direct as well as indirect laying fire. The gun is designed to :
i) Destroy/neutralise hostile artillery including self propelled artillery.
ii) Fight the enemy heavy tanks.
iii) Destroy enemy pill boxes and strong field works.
iv) Fire at enemy rear areas and concentration areas
FUNCTION :
The ammunition is of Q.F. Separate type, permitting the adjustment of propellant charges. Various types of cartridges used for this weapon are given below :
i) Cartridge full variable charge.
ii) Cartridge reduced variable charge.

The Cartridge is comprised of following items mainly.
a) Cartridge case
b) Primer
c) Various propellant charges

The base of cartridge case is recessed centrally and screw threaded to get assembled the primer. Various propellant charges are filled in the cartridge case as pre requirement. On firing the cap composition in primer is crushed against the anvil by the blow from the striker. The flash produced passes through the fire holes in the anvil, past the obturation device, through the fire holes in the plug and ignites the powder in magazine. The resulting flash ignites the propellant charge. The return flow of gases produced by combustion of gunpowder and propellant causes the obturating device (ball or cone) to press back on its seating and thus to prevent the rearward escape of propellant gases.
