Bomb 2" Smoke belongs to the family of screening Smoke Ammn used for screening and counter surveillance in combat field. It produces dense opaque white smoke screen in facilitating tactical deployment of troops and screening from enemy fire.
The bomb is fired from a 2" Mortar, smooth bore, muzzle loading infantry weapon. The ammunition is provided with delay element, which functions during the down ward trajectory. Immediately on landing on the ground, it generates dense smoke screen, which lasts for a period of more that 120 sec.

Quality control techniques and quality assurance measures ensure desired performance of the Ammn. The sub assemblies like filled delay, primary cartg etc. are subjected to test/proof before taken into production/assembly. The bomb is made in lots of 1000 Nos. The lot after qualifying standard checks and tests is subjected to function (dynamic) proof. Sentencing is done on double sampling plan by applying 2.5% AQL for major defects. No critical defect is permissible.
The Ammn is safe in all respects during handling, operation and transportation.
With the modified design, the ammunition has recorded very high degree of reliability

Packing consists of inner and outer standard package. Inner package is LP container. It is then packed in sturdy metallic carrier, that holds 6 bombs. 3 such carriers are then packed in a steel box.
