| GENERAL
: This bomb is used in 81 mm Mortar which is a light smooth bore, muzzle loading weapon having high angle of fire and capable of a high degree of accuracy. It is a platoon weapon of the infantry. The equipment can be dismantled into 3 loads and can be carried by 3 men. It can be used for firing in battlefields, mountain warfare or air borne operations. This bomb is a high explosive bomb streamlined in shape and is of the fragmentation type. It is fin stabilized and has fuze 162MK-8 at the forward end and a tail unit at the rear. Tail unit takes one primary and eight secondary cartridges. The bomb body is made out of steel (specifications JSS 9510-1) .81 mm Mortar bomb has a special feature i.e. it has 0 to 8 charges i.e. a total of 9 charges. |

SPECIAL FEATURES
: The fuze assembled with the bomb is a direct action detonating type. The design adopted in the fuze prevents premature arming when air dropped. |

QUALITY
: Strict quality checks are observed during various stages of production. The bomb body as well as other components are proved / inspected before separately being taken for filling and assembly. Added to this, functional proving is carried out in association with the Services Quality Assurance Organisation. The bombs are filled and assembled in lots of 2000 Nos. |

: The fuze and other components design ensures total safety during handling and transportation . |

RELIABILITY
: The Mortar has got a high angle of fire and is capable of high degree of accuracy. Due to the simple design of the direct action percussion fuze, the bomb is capable of functioning in all conditions. |

SHELF LIFE
: The shelf life is 30 years. |

PACKING
: The packing consists of inner and outer packages. The inner package is a HDPE/LDPE carrier which accommodates two bombs and provides protection during transport and storage in all climatic conditions. This carrier is then packed a study metallic carrier which holds two HDPE/LDPE carriers containing four bombs. |
