Cartridge is fired from Air-craft gun HP-23/AM-23. This ammunition is having the power to penetrate an armour of about 10 mm thick. The 23 mm cartridge consists of a solid body armour piercing incendiary shell, brass case with igniting primer and powder charge.
The armour piercing incendiary shell consists of steel body, copper rotating band, ballistic cap and incendiary pellet. To maintain the filled shell weight, the shell bottom section is fitted with an inert substance instead of tracer compound.
At present, cartridge with solid body armour piercing incendiary shells, without a tracer chamber are also being made to ensure better armour piercing effect. The shell body is made of structural alloy steel and heat treated.
The ballistic cap is fixed on the shell body by beading it into special grooves, and serves to impart a streamlined shape to shell nose.

The raw materials used for components are tested by independent Quality Assurance Wing. Major components are test fired and only passed components are taken into final assembly of ammunition. The final round is dynamically proved for (a) accuracy, (b) correctness of flight, (c) armour piercing and (d) rigidity of joint between the ballistic cap and shell body.
As no fuze is assembled into the shell, the ammunition is safe during manufacture, transit and storage.
Due to its sound design and careful manufacture, the ammunition is very effective in providing ground support to troops against armoured vehicles of the enemy.
The shelf life of the ammunition is 7 years.
70 cartridges are packed in one steel box H-60.
