BRIEF HISTORY OF ORDNANCE FACTORY KANPUR 

    Ordnance Factory, Kanpur is well known factory for its Ordnance and Ammunition products. The qualitative production of Barrels of different caliber (Ordnance) and many types of empty shell (Ammunitions) are being done. The area of this factory is 68.30 Hectare.  The Factory is situated at Kalpi Road, near Vijai Nagar Kanpur at about 08 Kms. away from Kanpur Central Rly. Station.  Approximate 02 Kms. ahead from here at Kalpi Road, a residential premises namely Armapur Estate Kanpur is situated having area 530.45 Hectare, in which residents for officers and employees of the Factory and its sister concern i.e. SAF, FGK, SQAE, AO etc. are available as under :-

            In view of the history of this unit, we found that during the second World War it was seen that Gun & Shell Factory, Cossipore and Metal & Steel Factory, Ishapore were not in safe position, thus the some parts of both the factories were transplanted to Kanpur as Transplantation Project (TP-2), resulting the Ordnance Factory Kanpur (OFC) was established on 16^th April 1943 for its production. OFC has started manufacturing medium caliber Gun and different type of unfilled ammunitions - Shells and Mortar Bomb and reached on new hieght. Now, Ordnance Factory Kanpur is a proud of 40 Ordnance Factories.

            Factory is well-aware of regarding health of its employees and their family members. A Hospital named Ordnance Hospital Armapur (OHA) is situated in Armapur Estate. Expert Doctors and modern medical facilities are available in the hospital. If required, Specialist Doctors are called time to time. There is a Factory Dispensary in this factory for immediate treatment.

            For better educational environment, there are 12 schools in Estate premises including 01 PG College, 01 Departmental Inter College (OFIC), 02 Kendriya Vidyalaya and 08 other educational institutions/Schools. Sufficient facilities for Parks, Entertainment, Sports, Market, Samaj-Sadan etc. are available in the Estate Area.
